An urgent recall was issued by the FDA along with Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. company for their contaminated hand sanitizers, possibly containing a methanol hazard.

The recall specifically targets certain lot numbers that were distributed between May 1, 2021, and October 27, 2023.

While no adverse events related to these products have been reported thus far, Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. has issued a cautionary statement highlighting the potential risks associated with methanol exposure.

Urgent Recall Due To Methanol Hazard

The revelation emerged from a joint press release by Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, indicating that forty batches of Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel Alcohol 80% and Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel were discovered to contain methanol.

The affected Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel is packaged in 12 fl oz (355 mL) dark green plastic bottles featuring a white label with the inscription "ARUBA ALOE Hand Sanitizer GEL 80% Alcohol Made in Aruba World's Finest Aloe" and the barcode 0 82252 03300 5.

According to the company, individuals of all ages using these hand sanitizer products are susceptible to these risks, with particular concern for young children who may accidentally ingest the product and adolescents or adults who may use it as a substitute for ethanol-based alcohol.

Methanol exposure can result in severe health complications, including but not limited to nausea, vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, coma, seizures, permanent blindness, and in extreme cases, death.

Despite the absence of reported incidents, the company emphasizes the importance of taking proactive measures to mitigate any potential harm to consumers.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel products within the specified distribution period are strongly advised to discontinue use immediately.

Proper disposal methods, such as taking the products to designated Household Hazardous Waste Recycling & Disposal centers, are recommended to ensure public safety.

Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. remains committed to transparency and consumer welfare. Individuals with inquiries or concerns regarding this recall are encouraged to reach out to the company directly for further guidance and assistance.
