Hot Hairstyle 'Babylights' Mimics Look Of Baby Hair

A new hairstyle is currently in, and is becoming the trend.

According to Today, this hairstyle is called “babylights.” It's one of the season's biggest trends, and it has been here since last year.

"My clients often bring in photos of their children for inspiration, asking me to make their color look that fresh and natural. The result is subtle but beautiful,” said Warren-Tricomi Salon’s Joel Warren, master colorist and co-founder, via Modern Salon.

This hairstyle is used by celebrities, and can be used by pretty much anybody.

"Babylights are a great way to lighten locks without making a color commitment, and they create natural, child-like highlights throughout hair, keeping hair looking subtle, soft and fresh," said celebrity colorist and Schwarzkopf ambassador Kim Vō.

Giovanni Vaccaro, Glamsquad creative director, says via Today that babylights can complement anyone's hair color. Asking your hair stylist for babylights only a shade or two lighter would be best, as any lighter than that could make your hairstyle look forced.

"The majority of your color should still be your natural color, only adding delicate accents to create the look," celebrity colorist George Papanikolas, told InStyle.

If you love your hair, but want something new or different, then babylights are for you.

"Babylights are right for you if you're looking for change or something different than what you have now without entirely parting with your hue," said Cortney Crace, Butterfly Studio Salon color expert.

The application process is easy, although it takes time. “The application process is very similar to highlights, the difference is the amount of hair in each foil and the separation between,” explained Warren. “For babylights, you use just a little bit of hair and create small sperarations between foils so the highlights blend with the base color.”

It also is low maintenance, too. Since the highlights are very fine, there will be no demarcation lines as the hair grows, bringing in its natural colors.

“Maintenance for babylighting is similar to any highlighting system,” explained Tomy Biton, owner of Tomy B Salon. “A full head should be touched up every eight weeks and sporadic pieces can be touched up 12-14 weeks.”

"I would recommend going to the salon every two months for a touch up as it grows out very gradually," Warren added.
