'Fallout 4' Release Date & Trailer: Guess What, CD Versions Of The Game Still Require Massive Digital Download

As the release of "Fallout 4" draws nearer, sources reveal that there may be a hitch with the CD versions of the highly anticipated first-person shooter game.

According to SoftPedia, the physical copy of "Fallout 4" for the PC, which will be made available via CD on Nov. 10, will not include a complete version. For PC gamers to avail of the full content, they will still have to download the extras from Steam.

A fan apparently clarified this to Bethesda's VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines on Twitter who did reply and confirm, "You will still have to download from Steam. The disc doesn't contain the entire game."

SoftPedia also reported that this is already the company's standard practice as they have previously done the same thing for releases of "Skyrim" and "Wolfenstein." The said system was set in place to ward off unscrupulous individuals who may likely be pirating the disc's contents.

The news outlet also mentioned that empty CD cases for "Fallout 4" for the PC have in fact been released by some publishers already, and yes, these do contain game keys that will be used for downloading on Steam.

Extreme Tech further sought an explanation from Hines to talk about the differences between the PC discs versus console gaming. "PC requires activation on Steam. Console does not. Console ship on Blu-rays, PC ships on DVDs," Hines told the news outlet.

While some gaming fans of "Fallout 4" understood the rationale given by the company, others were not too pleased to learn that they would still have to go to the trouble of downloading contents for the PC discs. Some gamers prefer to play using the PC specifically to cut down on the downloading requirements when they do not have enough resources for this.

"I'm sorry, but this is BS," said one user, according to Digital Trends. "If anything, this encourages piracy. You guys should learn a thing or two from [CD Projekt Red]."

Meanwhile, in line with downloadable content for "Fallout 4", Bethesda confirmed that succeeding contents, which will include game updates and features, will no longer be tied to an exclusive platform. According to Game Rant, the game developing company is going begin working on the "Fallout 4 Creation Kit" so that gamers can soon develop and share their own features to other users. The company also promised—through the "Fallout 4" season pass - that there will be several free updates coming.
