Hilary Duff: 'It Took Me a Full Year' to Lose Baby Weight

Actress and singer Hilary Duff recently opened up to Life & Style about how just long it took to get her pre-baby body back after giving birth to her first child, Luca, in March 2012.

While many moms in Hollywood seem to get back their bikini bodies soon after giving birth, Duff explained that just the opposite happened for her, and it took a year to do so.

"I'm finally at a comfortable place with my body," Duff told Life & Style. "It took me a full year!"

The 25-year old star, who began her career as a child actress best known for her role on Disney Channel's "Lizzie McGuire," recently flaunted her svelte new figure in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Since she gave birth to her son in March of last year, Duff has struggled to lose around 50 pounds of pregnancy weight.

"I never had to lose so much before, and it took a while to get mentally motivated," she said. "I was enjoying being home with my baby, and I wasn't super strict with my diet."

Duff, who many fans thought looked beautiful even with the extra curves on her naturally petite figure, finally realized in late 2012 that her baby weight wasn't coming off unless she did something about it. The star changed up her diet and enlisted trainer Gabe Johns to help get her back in shape.

"Gabe and I box outside my home, so my neighbors watched the whole shrinking process!," Duff said, citing boxing as her latest fitness passion. "It makes me feel super fierce."

Duff has admitted that balancing work and motherhood is hard. After a brief break from acting, she starred early this year in the TV show "Raising Hope," and is set to appear on the season finale of "Two and a Half Men." As for her music career, Duff confirmed in January 2012 to People magazine that she had begun recording for her new album.

"I'm taking meetings with different producers and writers and getting that process started again," she said to People at the time. "I'm ready. I'm taking my time because I want it to be right."
