Thanksgiving 2015: Snoop Dogg Helps Give Out 1,500 Turkeys to Needy Families

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, rapper Snoop Dogg gives some reasons for needy people in Inglewood to be thankful.

According to NBC Los Angeles, Snoop Dogg joined a turkey giveaway Thursday, November 19 in Inglewood, Ca. He joined Inglewood Mayor James Butts and other city officials for the second annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway.

More than 1,500 turkeys were reportedly given to families in need who were present at the event held at The Forum. More than just gobbling Thanksgiving dinner food, happy recipients also got the opportunity to snap a selfie with the Doggfather.

"This is a very big help for not only myself, but for about a thousand people," said recipient Xiomara Payan.

"Snoop Dogg took pictures with over 800 people at the event," Mayor Butts told NBC Los Angeles. "We had a tented area for seniors to sit in, and the first thing he did was go over to take pictures with everyone there."

After taking snaps with the people in the tent, the rapper reportedly went to the 800 people-long queue and also took selfies with them.

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, met Mayor Butts last year at his production crew's newly constructed headquarters in Inglewood. As the 44-year-old rapper wanted to be involved in giving back to his community, Butts suggested that he could do that via the turkey giveaway.

This is the second time the veteran rapper joined the annual event. In 2014, Snoop also joined Butts and other city officials in helping needy families have a good Thanksgiving celebration.

The Los Angeles Times reported in 2014 that Snoop Dogg and his production crew joined in the giveaway, assisting in giving out 800 turkeys. They generously shared their own money and time.

"There is a greater need than ever here for families that require assistance around the holidays,” Butts said in 2014. "With Snoop's help, we were able to hand out 800 turkeys."

The happy mayor added that the turkeys were all gone in such a short amount of time, and were very excited to have a picture with the guest.

"People were very excited to get a picture [with Snoop]," Butts said. He also called him "very gracious."

Hip-Hop music website The Boom Box proudly added that as Thanksgiving comes close, it's good to see rappers giving back to the needy in their communities.
