'The Big Bang Theory' Season 9 Spoilers & Cast: Producers Talk Sheldon-Amy Sex Scene; Mayin Bailik Admits Her Kids Don't Watch The Show

The Dec. 17 episode of "The Big Bang Theory" will feature Sheldon and Amy having sex for the very first time. Producer Steve Molaro discussed the details of why they finally decided to make this happen and he also revealed stuff fans can expect from the episode when it airs.

"They've been together on and off for over five years and it just seemed to be a good way to ultimately resolve this journey they've been on, including this break-up as well," Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter (THR). The producer admitted that Sheldon and Amy's intimate first sex had been on his mind for a while and its timing couldn't be more perfect now. The other side of the episode's story will involve "Star Wars" and the re-appearance of guest star Bob Newhart. "The fact that we were able to find a way to blend Star Wars with something for us on Big Bang - it's such an event for Sheldon and Amy, I couldn't be happier with it," Molaro said.

The highly-anticipated episode will have the gang scoring tickets to the premiere of the latest "Star Wars" movie. However, this will have Sheldon in a bind as it also happens to be Amy's birthday. Once again, issues about him not making her a priority will crop up between them, but he will eventually choose to be with Amy leading up to the big first night.

Mayim Bailik, who plays Amy, confessed she was surprised by the producers' decision, but she is pretty excited about how fans will receive it. "We have a scene where Sheldon and Amy discuss it before we even get to the bedroom and it's one of my favorite scenes that Jim and I have done together," she told THR.

"I think there are people who are really unhappy with Season Eight and Nine because of the Sheldon and Amy stuff-they want a resolution, they want us back together, but a show has to shift and grow. Our writers know what they're doing," she told Paste Magazine.

Meanwhile, the actress also confessed that her own children, both under 10, have yet to watch her comedy series, per Fox News. Though she's in the TV business, Mayim isn't a big TV viewer herself and she picks the shows her young kids tune to. "One of the reasons they don't watch The Big Bang Theory is because, in my opinion, there's a lot of things on our show that are not made for small eyes and small ears yet," she said.
