Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge' Release Date & Specs: Firm Plans Redesign -- Top 5 Things To Expect From The Next-Gen Smartphone [Rumor Round Up]

Samsung Galaxy remains one of the hottest smartphone series in the market. While the S6 was only released in April 2015, there are strong chatters that its next models are coming sooner than expected. Below are the five things consumers can expect from the coming S7 and S7 Edge release:

1) Release Date

Trusted Reviews indicated that the Samsung Galaxy S7 could be in the market as early as Feb. 21, 2016. This period coincides with the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that will be held in Barcelona next year and observers have noted that Samsung usually dates its smartphone launch a few days prior to the MWC.

2) Two Designs, Two Processors

Samsung has had a pattern in the past few years and makes it a point to release different variants of its newest model. Per SamMobile, one type of S7 will have a flat display for the regular version, while the other will carry a dual-edged curved front side, for the Edge version.

As for the processors, one variant will supposedly have an Exynos 8890 processor and the other version, a Snapdragon 820 SoC. The Snapdragon chipset will particularly improve on the performance already being enjoyed by current S6 users. Per Know Your Mobile, non-Asian markets will have S7 gadgets with the latest Snapdragon chipset.

On the other hand, the Exynos 8890 processor is said to be very fast and efficient, which will be launched with units set for Canada, China, Europe Korea, and the US, per Pocket-Lint.

3) Design

Know Your Mobile also reported that the S7 Edge will be "edgier" than the S6, with the top and bottom of the gadget prominently curved than before. It will also have a new design for the display. However, not much can be said for the design of the S7 as new details reveal it's likely not getting refinements that will set it apart from its predecessors, per Phandroid. Instead, Samsung will be concentrating on improving the display and camera quality for the S7 smartphone. The company may also compensate aesthetic enhancements with a host of software improvements.

4) Camera

Speaking of camera quality, the S7 could have a 16-megapixel camera at the backside and a 5-megapixel camera on the front side similar to the S6. What's different this time is the introduction of a duo-camera feature that is reportedly intense at 20-megapixel, per Pocket-Lint.

5) Software

The latest Galaxy smartphone is expected to run in an Android Marshmallow environment, with the TouchWiz slightly tweaked for the S7.
