'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' Release & Trailer: Gameplay 'Going Beyond' The Original, Says Game Director

Remakes are a really good thing, especially if they are able to exceed the success of their predecessors. According to “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” game director Yoshinori Kitase , that's exactly what fans can expect of the upcoming classic video game remake.

Kotaku reports that this past week, it was announced that the game will be not be released in one go -- like the original - but in an episodic manner. Unlike what many have thought, each episode will be a “full-sized game” which, when combined, will be an expanded version of the original “Final Fantasy 7” story.

So far, the initial reaction to the news has been mixed with some fans not in favor of the idea while others are in favor of the planned release mechanics.

Now, Kitase explained that the idea behind the episodic game release is that they want the remake to go beyond the original. In a Square Enix Blog, he explained that the multi-part format enables them to expand the original story, and give players an epic gaming experience.

He explained that reconstructing the original game requires a massive effort. And in using the current technology to create a remake that possesses the same density as the original game, some important parts will be sacrificed if they were to fit everything in one installment.

“If we were to try to fit everything from the original into one remake instalment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of FINAL FANTASY VII,” Kitase said. “We knew none of you would have wanted that.”

“With FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, we have the opportunity to go beyond the story, world and experience of FINAL FANTASY VII in ways we’ve always dreamed of - from the depths of Midgar to the skies above the Planet,” he explained.

He added that as the design and development details are being explained, he hopes that people will have more appreciation of the plans and size of the remake. “Going beyond the scale and depth of the world, narrative and gameplay from the original to deliver something that feels familiar yet new,” he added. “As I said before, we like delivering surprises. [smile] “

It seems that old fans and new gamers alike will enjoy playing the game that many consider a legend. Only that, this time, it will be even better.

PlayStation Lifestyle reports "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will be released sometime in 2016.
