'Sherlock' Season 4 Air Date, Premiere & Trailer: New Trailer Showing Sherlock-Abominable Bride Meeting Released [Watch]

After two long years, only a few days are left before fans see Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) return to the small screen in "Sherlock's" Victorian Christmas special. To hype fans’ excitement, "Sherlock" has released a new trailer of "The Abominable Bride.”

ScreenRant reports that BBC has just released a new footage for the "Sherlock" Christmas episode. The one-off special will showcase Sherlock Holmes and his pal Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman) returning to 1895 Victorian London, where the Sherlock detective stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle originated.

On the 40-second trailer, you can see the ghost of the mystery bride roaming the streets of London, seeking for revenge. The ghost even glides through detective Holmes and lurks behind Dr. Watson while a veil still covers her face. In another scene, the ghost bride even uses a gun, pointing at someone, per Radio Times.

Recently, BBC released a synopsis for "The Abominable Bride," which read as quoted by Screen Rant:

"Dr John Watson, meet Mr Sherlock Holmes.

We’ve been here before – but what if this wasn’t the modern day but the late Victorian period? What if the world’s most famous consulting detective and his best friend lived in a Baker Street of steam trains, hansom cabs, top hats and frock-coats?

Welcome to ‘Sherlock’ in 1895!

Some things, though, remain reassuringly the same. Friendship, adventure and especially, MURDER…Why is Thomas Ricoletti a little surprised to see his wife dressed in her old wedding gown? Because, just a few hours before, she took her own life…

Mrs Ricoletti’s ghost now appears to be prowling the streets with an unslakeable thirst for revenge. From fog-shrouded Limehouse to the bowels of a ruined church, Holmes, Watson and their friends must use all their cunning to combat an enemy seemingly from beyond the grave and the final, shocking truth about… the Abominable Bride!"

Meanwhile, in a separate video, the actors of "Sherlock" talks about the concept behind the Victorian special, CNet reports. Series creator Steve Moffat said, "Part of the impulse came from me and Mark [Gatiss] saying 'Wouldn't it be a shame if we never got to see them do it in the authentic setting?' So it was irresistible to do a special that is Victorian."

Cumberbatch also said that putting Sherlock in its original era is "fascinating" as the Victorian period provides a perfect setting for the story as well as "a masterful lens on that whole era."

Meanwhile, Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) even teased that for the Victorian special, fans might see a more "affectionate, amusing Sherlock" different from its modern-day version.

Catch "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" on Jan. 1 via BBC One in the U.K. and PBS in the U.S. It will also be shown in select theaters worldwide.
