Regular Walking Aids in Lowered Risk for Diabetes

Two-minute strolls every hour is reported to be a well-known cause for lowering diabetes risks.

According to Anthony Bernett, a Professor of Medicine at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust said that "a change in lifestyle can also significantly reduce a person's risk of Type II diabetes".

Type II Diabetes is known to be one of the most common diseases at present time, affecting millions of people in Britain and other parts of the world.

Bernett stressed that short bursts of exercise is crucial especially among people who have sedentary lifestyles due to their profession.

"Two minutes of brisk or paced walking ever hour can improve both sugar and fat levels", Bernett said in an interview.

Volunteers who participated in the study conducted by Scientists at the Otago University in New Zealand, who walked regularly for at least a minute and forty seconds every hour lowered their sugar and insulin levels.

Type II Diabetes is an alarming condition because it is also known for triggering other major health-related illnesses like heart disease and stroke, kidney and liver failure.

Other Researches conducted and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that 70 healthy adults who sat for nine straight hours showed that their bodies absorbed more sugar from the foods that they consumed.

On the other hand, those who sat for nine hours but walked for one minute and forty seconds every half hour showed lowered blood sugar levels.

The same study shared that "regular walking exercises are more effective compared to regular physical activity at decreasing both sugar and insulin levels among healthy and evenly-weighted adults".

Walking for a minute after every meal is also ideal for lowering risks for Type II Diabetes as well as other serious health conditions.
