Golden Globes 2016 Highlights: 'The Revenant' And 'The Martian' Dominates Award Show; Will It Be The Same In The Oscars? DiCaprio Believe To Win His First Oscar!

The prestigious Golden Globes award show just happened last January 11, 2016 and the star studded event was full of colorful happenings. Golden Globes this year was hosted by Ricky Gervais who has previously hosted the event in the past.

This year's Golden Globe was dominated by two major films starring two major Hollywood A-listers. Both "The Revenant" starring Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic, Wolf of Wall Street) and "The Martian" starring Matt Damon (Interstellar, The Bourne Identity) were nominated for the top awards and so were the actors.

"The Revenant" a survival thriller tells the true story of Hugh Glass, a 19th century fur trapper won three major awards in the Golden Globes. The movie won Best Drama, Best Director and Best Actor for DiCaprio. This win gives a boost for the "The Revenant" in the Oscars.

"The Martian" on the other hand was also not far behind. The space blockbuster movie tells the story of an astronaut stranded alone in the harsh lands of planet Mars where the astronaut (Damon) needed to find a way to survive. "The Martian" won "Best Comedy Film" and "Best Actor in Comedy" for Damon. The chances of the movie of winning awards in the Oscars are also very high.

Director of "The Revenant" Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu was very humbled after winning the "Best Director" award at the Golden Globes. "I cannot say how surprised I am and how proud I am to have survived this movie," Innaritu said. Innaritu's last film "Birdman" was a favorite in the Oscars, winning four Oscars including "Best Picture" and "Best Director" so this give "The Revenant" a big chance in the Oscars.

DiCaprio during his acceptance award thanked all the indigenous communities around the world. "It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and from people that are out there to exploit them," DiCaprio said.

Critics believe that Di Caprio might win his very first Oscar with "The Revenant".
