'Guardians OF The Galaxy' Director Wanted David Bowie Cameo On Space Superhero Movie

After learning about the legendary musician's passing, James Gunn revealed that David Bowie would have been on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" alongside Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana. on a heartfelt Facebook post honoring the fantastic performer, the director revealed that Marvel Studios was in talks to give "Ziggy Stardust" a brief cameo appearance on the sequel set to be released on the big screen in 2017.

"Just a very short while ago Kevin Feige and I were talking about a cameo role in Guardians Vol. 2, and he brought up Bowie's name. I told him nothing in the world would make me happier, but I heard from common friends he wasn't doing well," Gunn wrote on Facebook. "We heard back that he was okay and it could potentially happen."

Unfortunately, cancer has taken the one of the greatest artists to ever live before any of the scenes have been filmed. The "Super" director did not detail what role Bowie would have played if the plans pushed through, but his appearance on the sure-to-be-a-blockbuster-hit film would have been a great way to introduce the artist and his songs to a new generation of audience.

Gunn also  talked about how "Ziggy Stardust" influenced him as a child. This is one of the reasons why he chose "Moonage Daydream" to be included on the Volume 1 soundtrack of "Guardians of the Galaxy." Gunn also secured the rights to another song from "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" to be used on the sequel although the scene in which the unidentified song would have been featured was unfortunately cut (he hinted that he might figure out a way to include the song in the movie anyway).
