Hazel Hammersley, Two-Year-Old Cancer Patient Sent Support in the Form of Pizza

Hazel Hammersley, a 2-year-old cancer patient, was granted her wish for pizza in a big way.

According to PEOPLE, Hammersley's mother posted a sign made of medical tape in the window of her daughter's room at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles that read "SEND PIZZA RM 4112."

For a few days, the family didn't get any pizza. But several days after they posted the note, a passerby saw the message, snapped a photo of it and posted it to Reddit.

Pizza deliveries came in from across the nation to the point that the family had to eventually call off all requests for pies.

Hazel, otherwise known as "Hazelnut," was diagnosed with high-risk, stage three neuroblastoma in April and needs a year-and-a-half hospital treatment. Her mother, Lauren, said the family put up the sign to pass the time while having a bit of fun.

"We began hearing news that several pizzas were being delivered to the hospital," Lauren wrote on the family's blog, Our Little Hazelnut. "After only a few short hours, we were told that someone had taken a picture on the street of our sign, had posted it to Reddit.com and it had reached #1!!"

"Hazel woke up from her nap to the smell of pizza and was so excited to chow down! Several other children and nurses came into the room, with music playing, and had themselves a wonderful Pizza Party. We have been absolutely humbled and surprised by the outpouring of love and support ... and can only hope and pray that this brings awareness to Neuroblastoma and the Childhood Cancer Community," Lauren wrote.

Hazel and her family, which includes parents Lauren and Aaaron as well as Hazel's siblings Micah, 6, Elizabeth, 4, and 6-month-old Jonah, have a donation site to help fund Hammersley's treatments.
