Helen Mirren Tells Girls to Speak Up

Actress Helen Mirren doesn't have any daughters of her own, but she knows what advice she would give them if she did.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Mirren shared her experiences dealing with sexism throughout her career in the entertainment industry. She said she would have taught her daughters to be assertive at standing up to this type of abuse.

"If I'd had children and had a girl, the first words I would have taught her would have been 'f*** off' because we weren't brought up ever to say that to anyone, were we?" Mirren said. "And it's quite valuable to have the courage and the confidence to say, 'No f*** off, leave me alone, thank you very much.' You see, I couldn't help saying 'Thank you very much,' I just couldn't help myself."

Mirren is known for not caring what other people think. For example, in February, she appeared on the red carpet with pink hair after an inspiring episode of "America's Next Top Model," according to Vanity Fair.

Vanity Fair stated their favorite characteristics of the tattooed 67-year-old Oscar winner include her "age-defying beauty," "winsome anecdotes," "fondness for alcohol" and "wit."

The magazine stated that upon receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January, the actress said "I couldn't be prouder and more happy that I'm actually going to finally lie next to Colin Firth, something I've been waiting to do for a very long time."

The actress is best known for her role in "The Queen" in 2006 that earned her a Bafta and an Academy Award. She also had a role as policewoman DI Jane Tennison in television show "Prime Suspect."
