Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Divorce: 'By The Sea' Put 'Tomb Raider' Star and 'Fury' Actor's Marriage In Danger, Made 'Brangelina' Stronger

A film title such as "By The Sea" would inspire images of idyllic seaside lounging, but to Angelina Jolie - now Angelina Jolie Pitt, and husband Brad Pitt the film held far more undertow. "By The Sea" is the first film in which Jolie and Pitt appear together after making "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in 2005. Jolie and Pitt fell in love and began their life together not too long after "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

Ten years down the line, Jolie and Pitt's screen reunion in "By The Sea" apparently took a toll on the happy couple. Although the "Tomb Raider" star and "Fury" actor officially tied the knot in 2014, they have had many years together. Making "By The Sea" should have been a walk in the park. This was not the case, mostly because this time around in "By The Sea," Jolie was directing as well as acting.

According to Express, Jolie admitted with candid honesty just how taxing the film had been to their marriage. "The first week was the hardest because Brad knew I was worried and impatient," Jolie said of the disagreements she and Brad had on the set.

"You don't want to drag your own personal issues into the process, but we had a talk and decided we were going to be completely honest with each other."

Essentially "By The Sea" became a kind of litmus test for Jolie and Pitt. "It was our way of testing ourselves," Jolie shared. "We knew that if we could get through this, we'd come out even stronger and happier. And we did."

Indeed, they did. Parent Herald reports that despite news of the couple divorcing, Jolie and Pitt are actually house hunting in London. Pitt will be taking Jolie and their brood Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne to London while he works on the zombie apocalypse sequel "World War Z 2."

The Hamilton Spectator reports that Jolie shared how she and Pitt are no strangers to challenges. "We've always liked putting ourselves through challenges, even though it was maybe a little more dangerous for us as a couple," Jolie said. "I don't think we want to go through it again though."
