Inspiring Parenting Tips From The 'Paralyzed Bride'

Parenting is a tough job, but it could even be a lot harder if a parent is quadriplegic. This is the story of Rachelle Chapman, who had all her four limbs paralyzed after a pool accident. Yahoo News recently featured her and her realizations as a parent in the middle of her current condition.

Chapman encountered a horrible pool accident just weeks before her wedding back in 2010, which made her known as the "paralyzed bride." It was during her bachelorette party when the accident happened. One of her friends was poking fun at her when she was accidentally thrown into the pool.

Chapman told the Today Show that after she hit the water, she got up and noticed that her neck started to be stiff. She went to the hospital, but she was then paralyzed from her chest down to the rest of her body.

They had to postpone the wedding, but after two years, she and her husband Christ Chapman went on to get married even though she had to walk on the aisle on a wheelchair. The couple was first afraid that they wouldn't be able to have a child, but the blog Baby Bump reported that they found a solution to that by getting a surrogate.

Being a first time mother at her current state was hard, but she has some lessons to give to mothers out there on how they would be able to keep up with it.

The first thing she realized is that support could come from unexpected places and in her case, one of them is from her surrogate, Laurel Humes. Communication is a key to get in touch with the people you need to connect with in order for them to understand and know your situation and be able to help you with it.

She also learned how to be more patient and be selfless since their daughter Kaylee arrived. Despite her being paralyzed, looking at her child made her even more positive in life.
