Fluorescent Rabbits born in Turkey

Scientists in Turkey have produced and witnessed the birth of 'glowing rabbits', according to MSN News.

According to the Discovery News, the scientists who are from the University of Istanbul and the University of Hawaii Manoa saw the birth of rabbits that glowed under back light.

The Turkish researchers used the techniques developed by scientists from Hawaii that made it possible to develop transgenic bunnies.

They were a total of eight rabbits in the litter, a source told MSN News and two of the eight successfully glowed.

When normal lighting is used, the rabbits appear white and look like normal bunnies.

A source also informed MSN News that these rabbits were previously injected with a fluorescent jellyfish gene. They are not the first type of animals to be injected with this gene - dogs, cats, mice and pigs have also been subjects of the same test.

However, researched at the University of Hawaii Manoa confirmed that this was the first time the technique was used on rabbits.

According to the MSN News, injecting animals with the fluorescent jellyfish gene offers a breakthrough gene therapy for other serious illnesses.

If the animals injected with it glow, researchers would confirm that the genes were transferred successfully, a source told MSN News.
