Pancake is one of the favorite and nutritious breakfast foods. Children love them much. The plain pancake is thin, flat and round that contains a star-based batter with milk, eggs, and butter. It is served with various toppings like fruits, jam, chocolate chips, meat and syrup.

Healthy Eating states that the plain pancake has vitamins and minerals. It provides 15 percent of the daily value for phosphorus, thiamine and riboflavin, 20 percent of the DV for calcium and 10 percent of the DV for iron and folate. There are different variations of pancake all around the world and you can make them more nutritious and healthier.

1.       Pancakes, America

The American pancake is similar to drop scone and Scotch pancake. It is thick, fluffy and filled with fruits such as blueberries and bananas. It is also topped with crispy bacon and drizzled with maple syrup.

2.       Crepes, France

If U.S. pancake is thick, the French pancake or also known as crepe is thin. It is a golden pancake that is served with savory and sweet toppings such as raspberries and blackberries. One of the famous crepes is the French dessert Crepe Suzette in which an orange liqueur is poured over the crepe with sugar.

3.       Raggmunk, Sweden

Raggmunk is a Swedish comfort potato pancakes that are fried in butter. It is also served with lingonberry jam and fried pork.

4.       Okonomiyaki, Japan

This pancake is also known as Japanese pizza. The word 'Okonomiyaki' means "what you want."

So, you can choose the variety of fillings that you like. The egg batter can be mixed with fillings such as octopus to cheese. Once the batter is done, fried and topped it with your choice like pickled ginger to mayonnaise.

5.       Kaiserschmarrn, Austria

This Austrian pancake is named after the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph I who loved this pancake. It is caramelized, fluffy and mixed with almonds, cherries and apple compote.

6.       Cachapas, South America

Cachapas is sold all over the street stalls of Colombia and Venezuela. It is thick with the batter made from sweet corn and has a filling of soft white cheese.

7.       Dosas, South Asia

Dosas is a crispy, thin, tangy and shiny pancake that is made from a fermented batter of lentils and rice. It is filled with veggie such as spiced potatoes.

8.       Injera, Ethiopia and Eritrea

Injera is a fermented and a spongy pancake that is made from the teff flour and filled with vegetables or meat.
