School Shooting: Shots Fired at Georgia Elementary School, Suspect Arrested [VIDEO]

A school shooting took place Tuesday at a Georgia elementary school, sending students and teachers running out of the school building and no injuries have been reported. One suspect has been apprehended for the shooting spree.

According to WSB-TV, a woman in the school office called to say a gunman asked her to contact the Atlanta station and police. WSB said during the call, shots were heard in the background.

The suspect is a white man in his 20s who was armed with an AK-47 and dressed in black. Channel 2's Mark Winne said the suspect was peacefully apprehended by DeKalb County sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshalls.

"The call went out. DeKalb police and DeKalb marshals were clearing the building. DeKalb sheriff's deputies and the U.S. marshal's service had also responded. They joined in and they happened to locate the suspect in the building - without incident, without resistance," said Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne.

According to the reports, police were combing the school property to check for any other suspects or children that may have hidden. Parents were instructed that they could pick up their children at a rendezvous point at a local Walmart.

DeKalb County School Board Chairman Melvin Johnson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://bit.ly/16t14iF) there were reports of shots being fired inside the building that houses students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade.

"We're in the process of reuniting the children with their parents," said Mekka Parish, spokeswoman for the DeKalb County Police Department. "We're just trying to calm the nerves of parents."

Jonessia White, the mother of a kindergartner at the school, told AP she talked to her son's teacher shortly after most students were evacuated. White said the teacher told her they were still inside the building shortly after 2 p.m.

"When I hear he's safely out of the building, I'll be OK," White said, adding that she learned of the shooting when a friend called to say helicopters were hovering over the school.
