There is nothing more disturbing than resting with somebody who snores so loud. If only you can wake the person up and tell them about it but you are afraid to disturb the person sleeping. The truth is, the person who is snoring at the moment can't even do anything about it.

Snoring is the grunting sound produced by a person's breathing while asleep. According to Resmed, this is caused by a relaxed muscle that partially closes the air passage in the throat which produces the snorting sound when breathing.

There is also a more serious cause of snoring. It could be that the person is having a chronic condition called sleep apnea. It is a breathing obstruction that wakes you up often when you are asleep. As explained by NIH, what happens is your breathing pauses for few seconds and resumes but this is not a common condition.

If you are aware that you snore when asleep, it is best that you find a way to stop the disturbing involuntary hoarse sound. Those people who are affected can't have enough rest causing them daily fatigue, stress, and irritability during the day.

Here are some tips and easy fixes that a snoring person can do to stop the snoring problem:

Changing your position when you sleep

Sleeping on your side may prevent the snoring sound since the base of your tongue won't block the air passage when relaxed compared to a lying back position when sleeping.

Lose weight

Being overweight makes the tissues in the back of your throat fat that highly contributes to snoring problem. Losing some pounds will help decrease your snoring or even stop it.

Adding humidifier in your room

Snoring can also be caused by swollen nasal tissues due to irritated throat membranes caused by dry air. Making the room moist will resolve this problem. Keep your body hydrated too to avoid drying of throat.

Avoid drinking alcohol

Alcoholic drinks reduces the resting tone of the muscles in your throat according to WebMD. It makes you more likely to snore if you are drunk.

Regular sleeping patterns
