Starbucks Latest Addition: Spicy, Smoky and More

Starbucks has something new for their patrons as they recently launched two new drinks and meals in their menu with the flavors of "spicy, smoky and more." Presenting, Smoked Butterscotch Latte, Teavana Citrus Green Latte, Spicy Chorizo, Monterey Jack and Egg Breakfast Sandwich and Ancho-Chipotle Chicken Panini.

The SBL is mixed of espresso, milk and smoked butterscotch sauce while the TCGL, on the other hand, is composed of green tea, steamed milk, citrus mint syrup and with a drop of "lemon essence." Additionally, SCMJ and EBS is served with caramelized onions on potato bread.

"Chorizo is popular right now and spicy is on trend, so this guided our direction," Starbucks product development manager Sita Kacker said in a statement. Lastly, the ACCP is made of shredded chicken with ancho-chipotle sauce, poblano peppers, Gouda cheese and spicy cilantro pesto added on a ciabatta roll.

The beverages and snacks are now being served in the coffee company's U.S. and Canada branches, according to MarketWatch. Unfortunately, people could only enjoy these for a limited time only, until March 21.

Meanwhile, a U.K. based campaign group Action on Sugar studied 131 drinks at restaurants and coffee chains to check the sugar content of every beverage, Fortune reported. They found out that Starbucks has the sweetest refreshments as seven out of their 34 drinks entered the top 10 spot.

Their Venti Grape Mulled Fruit with chai, orange, and cinnamon resulted to have 25 teaspoons, or 99 grams, of sugar. The American Heart Association suggested that men should just have 9 teaspoons of sugar per day while 6 teaspoons for women.

Out of the 131 beverages tested, 35% has more sugar surpassing the recommended daily intake for males while 80% exceeded the commended amount for women. Hence, the group was asking U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron to take the proper action against the use of "high levels of sugar," which takes part to the worsening case of obesity and type-two diabetes in the country.
