Study Reveals Dozing Off With Your Pet Improves Sleep

people who find it hard to sleep at night can try sharing a bed with their pets. A study has recently discovered that sharing a bed with dogs or cats allows people to sleep better.

According to Xpose, the recent study was made public in December by the Center for Sleep Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. It involved 150 patients, half of them had pets which were allowed to stay in the bedrooms.

Results revealed that 41 percent of the respondents believed that having their pets inside the bedrooms helped them doze off faster and better. On the other hand, one out if five pet owners disagreed with this claiming that having pets sleep in the same room disturbs their sleep.

"If having a pet nearby helps them feel relaxed and gives them a sense of security, which permits them to fall asleep with less difficulty, then I think that is something that does deserve attention," said lead author Dr. Lois Krahn in a CBS News report. She, however, claimed that there should be some considerations before doing such.

Krahn claimed that pet owners should take into consideration their own sleeping patterns and those of their pets. "Take into account the size of the pet," she added.

Meanwhile, dog owner Patricia Sullivan said in a WFSB report that the cleanliness of pets and their numbers should also be considered. "If their feet were really wet, I'd wipe them off," she added.

Sullivan shared that her dogs also remind her not to stay up very late."They remind me to go to bed. They actually walk into my bedroom, look at me like c'mon let's go," she claimed.

Since the quality of a person's sleep does not solely rely on pets in the bedroom, other factors like the size and feel of the bed and health conditions should also be considered.
