How To Have A Confident Child: 6 Ways To Build Your Child's Self-Confidence

Many parents do their best to teach their children discipline and make sure that they are healthy, safe and secure. However, some parents do not have the time or the knowledge on how to build their children's self-confidence.

Confidence is important for a child's physical, mental and emotional well-being. PARENTING shared some of the ways on how to have a confident child.

1. Take your child's ideas seriously.

Some parents laugh at their kids' ideas especially if their ideas are too over the usual. However, that is a big mistake. It can be very harmful to the kids' self-confidence because they might feel humiliated and would no longer share their ideas in the future. Let your kid's creativity, imagination and uniqueness soar.

2. Take them to new social events and situations.

Do not expect your kid to be confident in social situations if they always stay in their bedrooms and not socialize with new people. Helping them familiarize themselves with different social events and different kinds of people will help build strong social skills and self-confidence.

3. Allow your kid to assist you in household chores.

Asking your kid to help you clean the house or prepare some meals are recommended. Having plenty of experience doing different tasks can help make children become more confident in doing new activities and tasks.

4. Be proud of your child's success.

Children like to receive praise for doing something commendable. PARENTING has an advice for parents whenever they celebrate their kid's success: "It's even more important to show children that extra effort will yield benefits in order to instill the idea within them that they're capable of greatness and that hard work pays dividends."

5. Try to make your kids teach you something.

Encourage your kids to teach you things they know about. It could be a story of your kid's favorite show or the mechanics of a game he or she loves to play. Just make sure that your kid is not bragging when trying to teach things to other people.

6. Let your kid experience failure.

Though you always want the best for your kids, it is also important to allow them to experience disappointments and failures. People cannot avoid failures in life no matter how hard they try, and parents need to allow their kids to experience failure and of course, to teach them how to respond. "It's not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings," Ann Landers told PARENTING.

All parents need to understand that confidence can affect the different aspects of their children's lives. Knowing how to build your child's self-confidence can make a big difference for his or her career and future.
