'Fallout 4' News & Updates: Game of the Year Winner At D.I.C.E. Awards

"Fallout 4," the role-playing video saga set in a post-apocalyptic Boston, a game by Bethesda Softworks, won the game of the year prize at the 19th annual D.I.C.E. awards. "Fallout 4" has also received trophies as a role-playing game of the year and for outstanding achievement in game direction. "Fallout" spin-off application "Fallout Shelter" was also selected as mobile game of the year.

According to the website Phys.org, the D.I.C.E. Awards stands for design, innovate, communicate and entertain. They are determined by votes from members of the International Game Developers Association and the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. The awards come to honor outstanding achievements in games industry.

"Fallout 4" is a post-apocalyptic open-world adventure game created by Bethesda. The storyline is set in the area of New England known as the Commonwealth. "Fallout 4" was just one of four games to win three awards each, including "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," "Rocket League" and "Ori and the Blind Forest." Besides them, several other games were also honored for their 2015 accomplishments, according to the Entertainment Weekly.

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," a fantasy role-playing sequel by CD Prokjekt Red, has won awards for outstanding achievement in game design, technical achievement, and story. "Ori and the Blind Forest," an ethereal platformer by Moon Studies, won honors for outstanding achievement in original music composition, art direction and animation. "Rocket League," the indie title from Psyonix, won awards for outstanding achievement in online game play, sports game of the year and the D.I.C.E. Sprite Award.

On the list of the night's winners are also games such as "Star Wars Battlefront," "The Phantom Pain," "Metal Gear Solid V," Mortal Kombat X," "Super Mario Maker" and others.

Several individuals from the game industry were also honored with awards, in addition to the games being awards at D.I.C.E. For instance, the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was given a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

Hideo Kojima was the AIAS' 21st Hall of Fame recipient. This is following a year when he split from the long-running franchise "Metal Gear Solid" of the publisher Konami. Now, Kojima is partnering with Sony for his next game.
