‘Spawn’ Release Date, News & Update: McFarlane Reboot Film Gets Hard R-Rating

As "Deadpool" got an R-rating, a lot of movie nowadays are eyeing to have the said score. Hence, the remake of Todd McFarlane's "Spawn" will also carry a hard rating R that promises its awaiting fans of gorier and action packed film.

To recall, the 1997 American supernatural superhero film wasn't really frightening, according to Movie Pilot. However, the 54-year-old cartoonist plans to change the story of the previous film into the coming reboot.

"In the background, there's this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn," he said. "Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He's going to be the specter, the ghost.''

In fact, the artist even compared his idea to the known Asian Horror Classics, like "The Grudge" and "The Ring." "I think they all work because there's only one thing in the movie that's not normal. There are not five things, there's one thing that's the boogeyman. So that'll be Spawn."

"He's this thing that just whooshes in, this ghost that moves and will f*** you up if you're in the wrong place in the wrong time, and the rest of the movie will look real, and be this real drama," he continued. "He's just this ghost, this thing behind it."

Moreover, McFarlane promises to make "Spawn" more horrifying, with a touch of suspense and supernatural genre. Meanwhile, he also teased everyone by telling MTV that an Oscar-winning actor will take the role of the anti-hero, Bloody Disgusting reported.

"I continue writing pages here and there. I have a guy waiting in the sidelines, an Academy Award-winning actor," he disclosed. However, he added that he can't say who the star is, but people can start to "narrow it down."
