US Trending Mark Zuckerberg On Apple vs FBI Battle: 'Facebook Believes In Encryption

Mark Zuckerberg voiced his support at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain last Monday. He publicly announced his support for encryption over security fight with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Earlier reports state that several social media, including Facebook, have already expressed their support for Apple. However, founder of Facebook personally expressed his support for Apple in the fight to protect its users' privacy during MWC in Spain, Monday.

Being one of the trusted people to give light in subjects of tech policy and privacy, Zuckerberg believes that forcing Apple to create a special version of its software so FBI can access contents of an Apple device will jeopardize the users' trust.

"We're sympathetic with Apple on this one. We believe in encryption," he was quoted saying by Recode. "I expect it's not the right thing to try to block that from the mainstream products people want to use. And I think it's not going to be the right regulatory or economic policy to put in place," he added.

Aside from Zuckerberg, Twitter and Square CEO also voiced his support for Apple with the following Tweet:

Apple Inc. had been locking horns with the FBI about breaking a users' privacy by creating a back door, allowing FBI to access the content of an iPhone used by killers in the San Bernardino massacre late last year. Apple believes that providing the access will make the privacy standards of the company unreliable, reports Recode.

While Zuckerberg supports encryption, he added that Facebook will cooperate with the government in the fight against terrorism in the best way it can. He said that the company has currently stringent polices when it comes to terrorism. He assures the public that these type of activities are not allowed in Facebook.

Zuckerberg has also faced security issues in one of his own messaging app, WhatsApp. Although the case may be a bit different than Apple's since Facebook doesn't own the hardware used to send the messages, reports Recode.
