Kids With Disabilities Can Now Get Adaptive Clothes at Tommy Hilfiger

Kids with disabilities can now enjoy adaptive clothing as Runway of Dream launches their first major collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger. The said collection is now available online for purchase on the company's website.

Tommy Hilfiger recognised how Runway of Dreams understands and tries to cater the need for children with disabilities to cope up with the challenge of feeling the equality with normal children that is why they developed a line of collections having the same appearance and price as with their line for normal kids but completely easier to wear. An example is how they replaced buttons and zippers with MagnaReady closures. The line includes 22 pieces of collection for boys sizes 4-20 and sizes 4-18 for girls, according to Parenting.com.

It all started when Mindy Scheier, Runway of Dreams founder was asked by her son Oliver who was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy if he could wear jeans in school. "I had to make the choice of, do I let him wear jeans, knowing he wouldn't be able to go to the bathroom on his own because he wasn't able to do the zipper and button and he wouldn't be able to wear his leg braces under the jeans, or, do I say 'I'm sorry honey, you can't wear jeans'," Scheier said, a New Jersey fashion designer.

She then started a study speaking to people from all over the world. She asked parents on their desire to have apparels for kids with disabilities which will no longer cause them to spend much money and time for alterations. Finally, she discovered modified closures, adjustability, and alternate options of wearing as the three major areas needing much attention in creating friendly outfits and started creating out of them.

Stephanie Gotlib, Children with Disability Australia chief executive officer considers this step as a fantastic initiative and believes that diversity should be "represented in the product as well and that it's done in a tasteful way," according to ABC News.
