Tommee Tippee Sippy Cups' Maker Promises To Change Its Design Following Parents Outrage

The maker of Tommee Tippee sippy cups pledged it will change the way its products are made in response to the parents who are outraged after they discovered hidden mold in the lids.

On Thursday, Feb.25, Tommee Tippee North America announced through its Facebook page that they are planning to change the design of their cups after an enraged parent posted photos of moldy child's sippy cup, which have since gone viral.

"We want everyone to be happy with our products, and we always want to exceed expectations," the company wrote on its Facebook page. "We've therefore listened to our customers and will be launching a new Sippee cup in the next few months."

The company's decision came after Montreal resident Marie-Pier S. L'Hostie posted to her Facebook page the seemingly clean sippy cup. But when the lid was cut open, it revealed that there was growing mold inside it.

"My friend [Simon O'kanada] wondered why his son was always sick," she explained to her page on Feb 18. "He broke the anti-spill top of his 'Tommee Tippee' bottle and discovered mold inside the mouthpiece." She then said the organisms cannot be seen unless the cup is cut open.

The shocking post has prompted a global outrage after many parents opened their own children's cups and discovered the same thing -- a moldy sippy cup. Appalled parents compiled the pictures to social media and said users wouldn't see the mold unless the lid is cut in half.

Tommee Tippee then took to Facebook to respond to the angry parents. The company said that the owners may not be cleaning the cups properly. Hence, they included a link -- showing how to properly clean it.

However, more parents posted to social media the same complaints. Thus, the company apologized to the consumers and promised the design of the said product will be altered in the next few months.
