Authorities arrested a teenager who was involved in the shooting of another teen in Valley Station on Tuesday night that left the victim in critical condition.
In a statement, Louisville Metro Police said that Jamal Sheikh told officers that he drove his vehicle carrying three people to the Woods of Glen Hill Manor apartments for a firearm transaction.
Teenager in Critical Condition After Being Shot
However, that was when the situation turned for the worse when a teenager was shot in the head and later transferred to the hospital in critical condition. Law enforcement authorities said that the car in question had a unique decal, as shown on a surveillance video.
A resident of the area, Brenda Johnson, said that the time of the incident was typically when kids and other neighbors were out and about. She was shocked that something like the tragic incident could happen so close to her residence, according to Wave3.
Johnson added that the development was especially shocking because the gun transaction involved young teenagers. The resident noted that the kids involved do not realize what they are doing in the neighborhood and how they affect other people living in it.
The incident is just another incident of youth violence around the city and comes less than two weeks after authorities detained four minors and recovered a gun at the annual KDF Fest-aVille event.
The suspect in the first case, Sheikh, was also charged with assault and tampering with physical evidence. The LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling the investigation of the case because of the severity of the victim's injuries, WDRB reported.
Fatally Shot Over TikTok Prank
The incident comes after a separate incident involving a Virginia teenager who was fatally shot by a homeowner following an alleged TikTok prank. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Michael Bosworth Jr., who was with two other teens at the time of the incident.
Authorities responded to a 911 call of a burglary in progress and found the teenager with gunshot injuries to his torso. He was then transferred to Mary Washington Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim's girlfriend, Malinda Garcia, described Bosworth Jr. as the best boyfriend, person, brother, son, and friend. Authorities have arrested 27-year-old Tyler Chase Butler on charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Butler's public defender did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the situation. The suspect is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail and is set for a court hearing in Hampton next week on unrelated misdemeanor charges of violation of a protective order and unlawfully disseminating images of another, as per the Washington Post.
