Families in Florida that have children born in the United States are facing various struggles amid the Trump administration's ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants and deportation efforts.
One example is an Apopka family that has been living in the country for more than 20 years and been separated amid the government's deportations. One couple, who have four children, who were all born in the U.S. and are considered American citizens, were taken by agents with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
Immigration Deportations
The father was identified as Esvin Juarez, who was previously deported following a routine ICE check-in where officials did not honor his deferred action status. On the other hand, his wife, Rosmeri Mirandan, is now detained in Orange County Jail awaiting deportation, leaving behind their four kids, aged nine to 17.
So far, it remains unclear what will happen after Miranda's case and whether state officials are planning to intervene to prevent her from being deported. The long-term legal options and potential outcomes for the reunification of the family are still uncertain, according to Fox35 Orlando.
The family was found to have come to the country 24 years ago and sought deferred action to avoid getting deported. This is a discretionary policy that allows certain immigrants to temporarily delay being removed from the U.S.
Despite this status, ICE agents still deported the father, resulting in the community arguing that they had positively contributed to the community and were not considered threats. The family's case highlights the challenges surrounding the current administration's immigration enforcement.
Another example is Maria Isidro, who is a nanny and a preacher's wife, who was deported to Matamoros, Mexico. The immigrant came to the country in 1998 and recently traveled to what she believed was a routine immigration check-in on June 3, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.
Crackdown on Illegal Aliens
However, ICE agents detained her and held her for eight days before forcibly deporting her to Mexico. Then, on June 11, immigration officials threw a red mesh bag of Isidro's belongings at her feet and drove off after a 15-hour trip by van and plane.
Carlos Enrique Arevalo is yet another victim of the current situation as on Feb. 15, he was preparing to go to a rec league game. However, multiple ICE agents pulled him over before he arrived at his destination.
This comes as President Donald Trump previously committed to a more stringent crackdown on immigration and the reversal of many Biden-era policies. This includes Temporary Protected Status (T.P.S.), which has been opposed by many Republican lawmakers, as per the New York Times.
