A Chico teenager admitted to committing a racially-motivated assault with a deadly weapon on a 31-year-old international student along with three other juveniles.

The Butte County District Attorney detailed the incident, saying that as the victim walked through the Chico State University campus grounds from the grocery store, the group of four juveniles threw rocks at him while yelling racial slurs and racially charged comments.

The district attorney also said that even though the victim tried to flee the scene, two members of the group chased him and later used a tree branch to beat him. The report specified that the remaining two juveniles watched the incident from the other side of the creek.

The 31-year-old was later able to get to safety and called 911 to report the incident after sustaining injuries to his head, arm, shoulder blade, and neck. District Attorney Michael Ramsey added that the victim also suffered emotional turmoil, according to Fox40.

Officials reported that the two juveniles who were involved in the original assault were located nearby and identified as a 16-year-old female and a 14-year-old male. Ramsey said that on that same day, police were able to arrest the juveniles on the allegation of resisting arrest.

After that, Chico State University Police reviewed several surveillance cameras and were able to identify the 13-year-old defendant. He is now waiting in the juvenile hall until his sentencing, where he faces a maximum of six years in the local juvenile hall for his involvement in the assault.

The identity of the fourth juvenile involved in the case is still a mystery, and the Butte County District Attorney's Office is urging anyone who may have information about the individual to contact officials, KRCRTV reported.

A Fight Between Two Groups of Teenagers

There was a similar incident in California that involved four teenagers who were arrested following a fight that was captured on video outside a Simi Valley movie theater. Police officers responded to a report of an assault in a parking lot at 2751 Tapo Canyon Road.

Authorities said that the law enforcement personnel arrested four underage boys for battery. The group allegedly approached another group at the Regal Plaza before a fight broke out between the individuals.

Police said in a press release that two victims were left injured after the fight, which included a possible concussion, chipped tooth, minor cuts, and abrasions. One victim, Michael Robinson, said he was with his friends when a group suddenly approached them, as per ABC7.
