Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a lawsuit against Roblox on Thursday, claiming the company has failed to protect children, prompting a response from the online gaming platform.

The lawsuit claims that the online gaming platform has perpetuated an environment where sexual predators "thrive, unite, hunt, and victimize" children. Murrill alleges that Roblox has failed to implement proper and effective safety measures to keep kids safe from adult predators.

The Louisiana Attorney General added that due to the platform's lack of safety protocols, children across the state are being placed in danger. Murrill added that Roblox is currently overrun with "harmful content and child predators" because the platform itself prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.

The lawsuit comes as the company has faced several lawsuits and backlash for failing to do enough to protect children who access its gaming services. Last month, a lawsuit was filed in Iowa after a 13-year-old girl was reportedly introduced to an adult predator on the platform before she was kidnapped and trafficked across multiple states and then raped, according to The Hindu.

The Louisiana Attorney General said that she believes Roblox should ultimately be shut down to keep children safe from adult predators. However, the online gaming platform has responded and it disputing the allegations.

In a statement, the company said that the assertion that it would "intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation" is "categorically untrue." It added that while no system is perfect, the company had been implementing rigorous safeguards to protect its community.

The company said that it is constantly innovating safety tools and has, in the past year, introduced more than 40 new features to protect its youngest users and empower parents and caregivers with greater control, Roblox reported.

The statement notes that Roblox has taken an industry-leading stance on age-based communication. It has recently introduced a new age estimation technology to confirm a user's age through a simple, quick selfie-video.

That technology helps Roblox provide a safer and more tailored online experience for its users, thanks to accurately confirming users' ages and unlocking appropriate features for them. The platform was originally launched in 2006 and has since spawned various games and "experiences."

The latest lawsuit against the company notes that 20% of the platform's 82 million active users were under the age of nine years, based on the company's 2024-25 annual report, according to NBC News.
