A Milwaukee woman's daughter has been arrested by police on suspicion of killing her mother in a case that involves years of domestic violence calls.

Court records show that there is a history of domestic violence calls to the home of the victim, who was beaten to death with a stone on Oct. 12. The victim was identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner as 64-year-old Carrie Zettel.

Daughter Arrested for Beating Mother to Death

Arrest records and a search warrant showed that the victim's 29-year-old daughter, Lauren Spors, was taken into custody for first-degree intentional homicide. However, she has not yet been formally charged. The warrant also wrote that when police found Spors, she was "covered in blood."

The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) on Sunday responded to 23rd and Ramsey at around 2:30 p.m. local time for a domestic violence call. The search warrant revealed that a neighbor told officials they saw Spors strike her mother several times using a stone, according to Fox6Now.

A family friend, Loretta Moyer, said that the victim was terrified of her daughter, but did not want to turn her back to her. Others said that Zettel called the police before the incident to report a potential break-in that her daughter attempted.

Friends said they were not surprised by the fatal outcome of the situation, saying there were years of warning signs that were ignored. Susan Henderson-Hoffmann said that the daughter should have been stopped years ago, saying that the incident just "angers" her.

Authorities are now asking the public to provide any information they know about the tragic killing to help the investigation, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Filing a Restraining Order

Officials also found that in 2018, Zettel was granted a restraining order against Spors following a handwritten plea that detailed her fears of her daughter. The latter apparently struggled with mental health issues before the deadly confrontation.

However, court records showed that Spors reportedly violated that order four different times, where she was found incompetent for the case to move forward every single time. Documents also noted that the daughter was taken to the county mental health facility after the fourth incident.

That particular confrontation had Spors throwing a rock through one of the double-pane windows of her mother's home. Public records did not indicate how long she was held after that incident.

Authorities also discovered that Zettel's restraining order against her daughter expired three years ago, as per WISN.
