Actor Bruce Willis' daughter, Rumer Willis, shared a heartbreaking update regarding her father's health condition after originally being diagnosed with aphasia in 2022.
Rumer said that her dad, who starred in the "Die Hard" franchise, has now been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a progressive brain disorder. On Friday, she struggled to describe how Bruce was doing in his day-to-day life.
Bruce Willis' Daughter Gives Update on Father's Condition
In a Q&A session on her Instagram, Rumer said, "People always ask me this question. And I think it's kind of a hard one to answer, because the truth is that anybody with FTD is not doing great. But he's doing OK in terms of somebody who's dealing with frontotemporal dementia, you know what I mean?"
Bruce's daughter added that her father was "doing great," but also explained that these parameters do not really describe him accurately anymore. She then elaborated on the matter in a separate Instagram Story on Friday, according to Huffpost.
Rumer said that she was grateful that she was still able to hug her father, whether or not he recognizes who she is. The actor's wife, Heming Willis, revealed earlier this year that her husband's brain "is failing him" and that language "is going."
Bruce initially married actress Demi Moore in 1987, with whom he had Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah with before finalizing their divorce in 2000. After that, he had two more children with his second wife, Emma Heming Willis, whom he married in 2009.
Receiving All-Around Care
The actor now receives all-around care in a nearby residence, which is a decision that his wife said has helped their daughters regain normalcy despite public criticism. Rumer also expressed her gratitude that her two-year-old daughter Luetta was able to spend some time with her grandfather, Yahoo Entertainment reported.
After Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia, he stepped back from acting to focus on his health. In 2023, his family issued a statement thanking the actor's fans for the overwhelming support and kindness they gave since finding out about the diagnosis.
Rumer's update on her father's dementia battle comes after Tallulah talked about the actor's ongoing battle on "The Today Show." At the time, she said that Bruce was "doing stable, which in this situation is good," but added that "It's hard."
She said that there were difficult days, but noted that there was so much love between them. Tallulah learned not to take any moment for granted. She said that she believes her father would be "very proud" of her, as per News.com.
