A 37-year-old woman carrying twins was rushed to the hospital with severe preeclampsia just 24 hours after her husband departed for a last-minute vacation across the country, despite her repeated pleas not to travel during her high-risk pregnancy.
The woman shared her experience on Reddit, revealing that her husband made the decision to visit his siblings in mid-December after initially proposing mid-November, a timing she rejected due to her advanced pregnancy.
Pregnant Woman Shocked by Husband's Vacation
She was managing gestational hypertension with medication when her condition suddenly worsened. At midnight, her blood pressure spiked to 180/110, prompting an emergency hospital visit where she was diagnosed with preeclampsia and admitted to the labour ward, according to Yahoo News.
"I was finally diagnosed with preeclampsia. I spent several hours alone overnight at the hospital in the labour ward," she wrote, adding that both babies had normal heartbeats and she was eventually discharged and prescribed additional medications.

The timing of her husband's departure has intensified her frustration. According to her account, he booked his flight only after learning of her gestational hypertension diagnosis. "My husband booked his flight (for mid-December) only AFTER I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension. Had it been before, maybe I wouldn't feel so much resentment," she explained.
The woman noted that her husband has not apologized for the trip. The experience has left her emotionally shaken. "I've been super depressed and anxious to go through the health scare alone," she said, questioning whether she can "get past the resentment" she is experiencing.
The Dangers of the Third-Trimester
Medical experts strongly advise against traveling during the third trimester, particularly in high-risk pregnancies. According to the Cleveland Clinic, "Most healthcare providers recommend that you stay closer to home in the third trimester, and especially in the last month of pregnancy." The risk of complications increases significantly when carrying multiples, and conditions like preeclampsia require close monitoring by healthcare providers.
Her family largely supported her perspective, though some argued her husband could not have predicted the hospitalization. However, Reddit users overwhelmingly sided with the woman, pointing out that third-trimester pregnancies with twins present elevated risks that a responsible partner should consider. One commenter noted, "Let's review. 1) third trimester, anything can happen 2) your age = high risk 3) gestational hypertension = added risk," as per People.
The woman suggested an alternative: her husband could have invited his siblings to visit instead of traveling, but this option was never discussed. She remains uncertain about the future of her marriage, grappling with unresolved feelings toward her husband's decision to prioritize his family visit over her medical safety.
