Lego 'Ninjago' Writers Join Guillermo Del Toro For 'Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark'

"Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" co-writers Dan and Kevin Hageman will team up with director/producer Guillermo Del Toro for the film adaptation of the "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark." The film is based on the "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" book series by author Alvin Schwartz.

Guillermo Del Toro tapped the "Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" TV series writers after the initial "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" screenplay draft was put together by "Saw" writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton with "Big Fish" writer John August. This is not the first time that Del Toro will be working with the Hageman brothers. Previously Del Toro and the "Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" writers teamed up for the original Netflix series "Trollhunters."

According to Screen Rant, Guillermo Del Toro is all praises for the "Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" brothers from their collaboration on "Trollhunters." Del Toro felt that they are the perfect team to work with on "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark."

"I have had such a great time working with the Hagemans on Trollhunters - and they have proven to be such brilliant writers - that the fit for this material was just perfect," Del Toro stated. "They grew up with the books, they love the genre and they are smart and emotional when writing characters."

Dan and Kevin Hageman co-wrote the screenplays for "The Lego Movie" and "Hotel Transylvannia." The Hageman brothers also expanded on their "Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" background through their work on the new Lego spin-off movie "Ninjago."

The source material, "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark," is a three-book series composed of "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," "More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" and "Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones." Each book compiles retold folk tales and urban legends, with illustrations by Stephen Gammell.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Guillermo del Toro has plans to direct "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark." Del Toro as a self-professed fan of Alvin Schwartz and the Hageman brothers with their proven grasp of the younger seem the perfect team-up to spin "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark." All eyes are eagerly waiting for Guillermo Del Toro and "Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" to begin.
