2016 Chevrolet Camaro Price, Specs, Release Date & Update: Sixth-Gen Camaro Specs

Chevrolet Camaro 2016 had to replace a successful car and this was not an easy task. The new model of the sixth-gen is debuting this winter with enhanced specs and a new design.

According to Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser, cited by Automobile Mag, Chevy decided to return to the first generation design for the last car of the sixth-generation. Camaro design director Tom Peters declared that his team took into consideration various design options, including the second-generation Camaro-Cadillac exterior design proposed by Bob Boniface.

According to Oppenheiser, the exterior design team has chosen to return to the fist-generation design because it was a very iconic look. For this reason the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro came out with classic proportions that are very recognizable.

The engineers had to install the shock-tower studs with threads facing down because the hood is very low. The Corvette's influence is reflected in some deep indentations in the doors and roof. The overall effect is no less muscular but a much slimmer looking car.

The SS model of the Chevrolet Camaro 2016 line features the Corvette's 6.2 liter LT1 V-8 engine that provides 455 hp. However, most of the sixth-gen Camaros will feature a four-cylinder 2.0 liter turbo engine that will provide 275 hp or a 3.6-liter V-6 that will provide 335 hp. Each engine variant comes with either a eight speed automatic transmission or with a six speed manual transmission.

Meanwhile, according to Autoblog, Hennessey Performance provides an option to upgrade the 455 hp output of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS to 650 hp if you want to keep the engine naturally aspired and to 1000 hp in supercharged versions.

In addition to installing the intercooler and supercharger, the company Hennessey Performance performs a suite of engine modifications in order to achieve such a massive boost in performance. Among the biggest tweaks performed is upgrading the engine from 6.2 liters to 6.8 liters. Other modifications are porter cylinder heads, billet steel connecting rods, forged pistons, new engine management, an upgraded valve train and more.
