Lice Outbreak 2016: Super Lice Have Taken Over 25 States

A super lice outbreak has hit the 25 states of America. These include Georgia, California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansan and Illinois, among others. According to a report, the bugs cannot be treated with over-the-counter medications, which frustrates most parents whose children are affected with super lice.

Fox News reports that the over-the-counter treatment such as the Pyrethroids had been 100 percent effective in 2000 in getting rid of lice; however, as of now it works only for about 25 percent cases.

According to 11alive, the outbreak is getting worse. Millions of parents are worried on how to kill the lice as they can't be killed anymore with the said over-the-counter medications.

"I was like, 'Oh, no.' I knew it would take some work to get rid of it," Shannon Lesnevich, a parent whose son had gotten lice from his classmates.

Meanwhile, the good news is that a new FDA-approved treatment for lice was developed by Lice Clinics of America. It is called AirAlle. It is effective in killing lice, with costs about $170 and which also covers insurance.

"We use heated air, and we dehydrate the lice and the eggs in a single treatment," Claire Roberts, the CEO of Lice Clinics America. "It takes about an hour, and we guarantee it."

Experts advise the parents to teach their children about sharing matters such as not sharing their hair brushes, hats, hair clips and accessories, towels, scarves, coats, headsets and earbuds. The children must also prevent contact with their classmates and head-to-head contact. The traditional nit-picking can also be applied in killing the lice but it may take time. Observe good hygiene and wash the hair of your children every day.

Taking some precautions and teaching your children about sharing some things that may be able to inhibit your child from getting or spreading lice.
