Oscar winner Brie Larson Says Movie 'Room' Made Her Understand Parenting

Oscar best actress Brie Larson admitted that she learned a lot about parenting from the movie "Room." The actress played the role of a woman who was a captive in a small room with her young son for years.

According to USA Today, many viewers were surprised with the moving performance of Larson even though she is not yet a mother. The actress shared that the film helped her a lot in getting the big picture about parenting.

"I do have a little taste of an understanding of how complicated it is to be a parent," Larson said. "I think there's a lot of unknowns when it comes to parenting, and the idea of jumping into that world."

She also noted that she had a lot of wonderful discoveries along with co-star Jacob Tremblay, who plays his son in the movie. "There's so much wisdom in a child. There's so much ease to the way that he is. That I'm really excited for whenever that journey comes," she added.

The 26-year-old actress shared that she is happy, she was able to somehow experience what it feels to be a parent. "I am excited about it. Children are just magical and full of wisdom. Incredibly little people," Larson said as she talked about parenting.

The Oscars recently recognized Larson's outstanding performance in playing the role of "Ma." The Wall Street Journal stated that Room is filled with emotions and lessons about being a good parent.

Ma and son Jack (Tremblay) were able to escape from the 10 ft by 10 ft room they've grown accustomed to. The second part of the movie presents their bigger struggle to survive in a more dangerous environment: the outside world.

Writer Emma Donoghue told The Wall Street Journal that she intended to show the "journey out" of the mother and son. "People are scared of a film about a child in a locked room, quick to assume it'll be horrific or depressing. I can quite see why the distributors need to emphasize the fact that this is a love story and its ultimate effects are very uplifting," she explained.
