'The Division' News & Updates: Ubisoft Announces The Game Won't Have Microtransactions

The upcoming third-person shooter "The Division" from Ubisoft will not feature microtransactions, according to the latest reports.

The developer suggested the idea of microtransactions for the game back in summer 2014. The manager director David Polfeldt of Ubisoft declared at the time that "The Division" will allow gamers to pay in order to speed their progress.

Polfeldt said back in 2014 that some things require time and patience in "The Division" game and not all players are willing to invest time and wait. For those who prefer a shortcut, the game studio was looking for some types of trades. However, according to community manager Natchai Stappers cited by IGN, now Ubisoft gave up the idea.

"The Division" beta features the existence of the "Phoenix Credits". However, they seem to be earned exclusively through gameplay rather than being available to buy real money. Stappers declared on Twitter that Ubisoft will provide later more details of the Phoenix Credit system.

According to GameSpot, creative director Magnus Jansen also suggested in January 2016 that the studio gave up plans for shortcut microtransactions in "The Division." According to him microtransactions were indeed under consideration, "but it never made it into the game". So gamers can't expect shortcuts or microtransactions in "The Division."

Two of Ubisoft's biggest recent game releases - "Assasin's Creed Syndicate" and "Rainbow Six Siege" - offer both microtransaction systems. "The Division" game missing microtransactions is a change of practice for the games studio. However, "The Division" will still offer some extra paid content in the form of expansion packs.

Ubisoft recently ended the beta for "The Division." According to reports, the beta represented a new record on new-generation consoles, attracting around 6.4 million players across Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The full release of "The Division" is scheduled for March 8. Recently Ubisoft has released a new 60fps PC trailer for the game. The developer has high hopes for the "The Division", expecting it to join "Assassin's Creed," "Watch Dogs" and "Destiny" to become one of the biggest new IP ever.
