Tom Brady News and Updates: Brady Signs Contract With Patriots Until 2019

Quarterback Tom Brady has signed a two-year extension with the New England Patriots according to NFL sources. This means Brady will be with the Patriots until 2019 season.

NFL sources tells ESPN correspondents Adam Schefter and Dianna Marie Russini, that Brady with one more year left on his contract has agreed to extend two more years with the Patriots, possibly decreasing Brady's salary cap of $15 million this year, reports ESPN. NBC Sports explains that in cases of contract extensions, the salary cap of players is often decreased in the first year and increases in the next coming years. NBC Sports added that Brady is going to cost $16 million against the Patriots's 2017 cap.

The Patriots are also in the initial stages of planning the possible extensions of the following: linebackers Jamie Collins and Dont'a Hightower, defensive end Chandler Jones and cornerback Malcolm Butler, ESPN added.

The deal with Brady has not been finalized according to reports. However, it is very likely that he will accept the offer as he initially expressed his interest in playing well after his 40s, reports ESPN. He will likely end his career in New England and could be one of the rare players that could play in his 40s in NFL history.

If Brady agrees to extend his contract through 2019 season, this means that the quarterback will have spent 20 seasons in the NFL and all with the Patriots, which is a rare case, CBS Sports reported. Only three players were recorded to have spent 20 seasons with one team.

The two-time Super Bowl champion and seven-time Pro Bowler Darrell Green had spent 20 seasons with the Redskins in 1983 to 2002. When Green started with NFL, there were only 28 teams however when he retired, there were already 32 teams playing, reports CBS Sports.

There's also Jason Hanson who spent 21 seasons in Detroit before retiring in 2012. CBS Sports reports that Brady may break this record if he could play for eight more years. That means he will have spent 23 seasons with the Patriots.
