Danny Boyle's 'Trainspotting' 2 News and Updates: Original Cast Returning

After nearly two decades, Danny Boyle's "Trainspotting" will finally have its sequel with all original cast returning to reprise their roles. Boyle believes that doing the sequel will be a turning point for his career especially with his plan to bring back the dark humor once more.

All the main cast members of "Trainspotting" will return for the sequel which was originally penned as "Porno" by Irvine Welsh. However, latest reports reveal that it will be simply titled as "Trainspotting 2." As the title implies, the story will follow Sick Boy's porn career and other main characters' life after 20 years, as previously reported by Movie News Guide.

Enstarz reported on an interview with Robert Carlyle and NME, hinting on what could "Trainspotting" 2 be. He said that the audience will see if the characters have truly moved on or not. This will be emotional for both their audience two decades ago and their young followers now.

Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Renton who will be in Amsterdam in the sequel, Johnny Miller will still be Williamson, Robert Carlyle is still the infamous Begbie and Ewan Bremmer will still portray Murphy. The actors will work out their busy schedule to make "Trainspotting" proceed as planned.

Currently, Robert Carlyle reportedly has a recurring role in ABCs "Once Upon a Time" series while Johnny Lee Miller takes on the role of Sherlock Holmes in CBSs "Elementary" series. Both have agreed to reprise their roles for the "Trainspotting" sequel.

The cast is quite anxious with their comeback for "Trainspotting". Their portrayal of the characters in the movie became quite a big part of who they have become in their career. Boyle reveals that the actors are quite protective with their characters.

So far, Boyle and the actors only have terrific reviews for how John Hodge worked out the screenplay. According to Boyle, the actors are good indicators of how good the script is considering they will be the ones to make the characters seemed real in the movie.

It has been two decades since "Trainspotting" hit the theaters in 1996. The film has become one of the biggest cult classics of all time. The movie is based on a novel written by Irvin Welsh in 1993.

Shooting will reportedly start this spring. "Trainspotting" 2 is slated to open in theaters early of 2017. Check out this interview with Ewan McGregor about the highly anticipated "Trainspotting 2":
