'Modern Family' Cast News & Update: Sarah Hyland Leaving Show? Actress Joins 'Dirty Dancing' TV Remake

Sarah Hyland has come aboard the "Dirty Dancing" remake for television, but what will this mean for her commitment to "Modern Family?"

Entertainment Weekly reports that Hyland, 25, has been cast as Lisa Houseman, the sister of the lead character, Baby. Abigail Breslin will headline the remake along with Colt Prattes (Johnny), Debra Messing (Mrs. Houseman) and Nicole Scherzinger (Penny). The musical drama event is based on the 1987 film, which Emile Ardolino directed and starred Patrick Swayze. The movie also launched the career of then newcomer Jennifer Grey.

The character of Lisa is described as extroverted and in the original movie, Jane Brucker played the part, per People. Watch Brucker in her scene in the original version of "Dirty Dancing."

The story follows the affluent Houseman family as they spend a summer vacation in a resort, where Baby meets and falls in love with an older guy, Johnny. It's a coming-of-age film that became a box office hit during its time.

The "Dirty Dancing" TV remake will only be a one-time event on ABC and it is set to run for three hours. Thus, Hyland's commitment to "Modern Family" will not be affected as rehearsals and filming for the musical will take place in a short period only. Airing date for "Dirty Dancing" has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Hyland recently finished filming an episode for "Modern Family," where she and her on-screen partner, Adam Devine, shared a passionate kiss, Daily Mail reports. Viewers of the series should recall that their characters, Haley and Andy, have had a rough patch in a previous episode, where Haley accused Andy of avoiding her. However, the couple worked it out and agreed that they will not rush into their relationship and let it blossom naturally. It looks like things will move smoothly for Haley and Andy in "Modern Family's" succeeding episodes.
