'High School Musical 4' Release Date, Plot Details & Cast News: Who Are The New Characters? What We Know So Far

Casting is underway for the fourth installment of "High School Musical" as Disney announced that it will be bringing back the show. Production is keen on giving five young stars the role of the lifetime, but what part will the new cast play and what will "High School Musical 4" be all about?

E! Online reports that there will be five main characters for the TV movie musical and they are described as the following:

- Derek, a soccer player and dance teacher to little kids, with a tough guy appearance. He's actually a soft-hearted kid who falls in love with Erin.
- Erin is the only girl in the soccer team, where she meets Derek. She's wary about Derek's bad boy image, but she chooses to follow her heart.
- Campbell is the captain of the soccer team who also has an eye on Erin.
- Tamara is a cheerleader and was once the queen bee. She's out to reclaim her thrown.
- Nathalie is Erin's BFF and a she's also cheerleader.

Hollywood Life reports that the character of Campbell is being billed as the new Troy. He's got a connection with the characters of "High School Musical 1" as he's Sharpay and Ryan's cousin.

Seventeen reports that there's no word if Sharpay and Ryan will be making their appearance in the new installment. The roles were played by Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel 10 years ago.  It's also not yet confirmed whether the TV movie's original stars, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, are making a cameo. Both actors are committed to other projects with Efron filming the "Baywatch" movie and Hudgens starring in her brand new TV show, "Powerless."

However, Efron might not be keen on coming back if Hudgens is going to be there. The two used to date for years, before their relationship turned sour. A source told Inquisitr that they are not in good terms.

There is still no word on when "High School Musical 4" will air.
