Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date, News & Updates: The Device Can Detect Moisture To Prevent Charging Damage

Samsung Galaxy S7 features great build quality with its IP68 rated case for protection against water and dirt. The handset is also protected from charging while wet.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 phone acquired the IP68 rating despite leaving the micro USB charging port exposed.  IP ratings ensure that a device meets the protection specifications under test environments.

Even if the Galaxy S7 comes with the IP68 rating, it is better to treat it as a safety net in case of an accident rather than bringing your device at the pool. The smartphone might not be covered under warranty for all the circumstances and there's no guarantee that the handset will remain water resistant under all circumstances either.

Galaxy S7 is displaying a "moisture detected in charging port" message in case that the user tries to charge the smartphone while wet. The handy fail-safe feature completely disables the USB port from charging while wet and it is designed to prevent short circuits, according to Android Authority.

Until the USB port activates again, users have reported that they have to wait for various lengths of time. This suggests that, before switching the USB port back on, the Samsung Galaxy S7 features some mechanism that checks for the port to be completely dry.

Meanwhile, Droid Life reports that the Galaxy S7 allows users to safely install apps on the phone's expandable microSD storage. The return of the expandable storage to Samsung's smartphone will be a deal maker for many users.

Last week, Samsung declared at Mobile World Congress that this functionality was disabled, according to Phandroid. The company explained that they took this precaution measure in order to not damage app installations if the microSD card was removed while the phone was on. However, this is a non-issue since users can change the install location from internal to external (SD card) storage once an app is installed.
