'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Air Date, News & Update: Sansa Stark Rape Scene Not For Shock Value; Producers Explain Scene

The ultra-successful HBO series "Game of Thrones" will soon debut its season six this coming fall and the hype for the series has never been greater. This might also be due to the fact that the book, which the season six of "Game of Thrones" is inspired from hasn't been finished, but mostly the hype is because of everything happening in the whole series. Many of the fans were left shocked and confused in the last "Game of Thrones" season ender and there were a lot of questions from the fans to the production team.

On the last episode, one particular scene in "Game of Thrones" got everyone riled up and it was the rape scene of Sansa Stark who was forcefully married to Ramsay Bolton. The thing that the fans were skeptical about was the fact that they think the production team is only incorporating rape scenes in "Game of Thrones" as a shock value and nothing more.

The book wherein the 5th season of "Game of Thrones" was also inspired from did not put anything about the rape of Sansa Stark and that is why many of the fans think that the rape scene in "Game of Thrones" Season 5's last episode was just for shock value. However, according to the producers of "Game of Thrones," although it did deviate from the book, in a larger sense, it could have really happened to Sansa who married Ramsay Bolton, a sadistic and egoistic son of Lord Roose Bolton.

"When we decided we were going to do that we were faced with the question: If she's marrying Ramsay, what would happen on her wedding night? And we made the decision to not shy away from what would realistically would happen on that wedding night with these two characters, and the reality of the situation, and the reality of this particular world," writer and producer Bryan Cogman said. The producers hope that this will clarify everything that the fans are wondering as to why they did that scene on "Game of Thrones" season 5.
