'Iron Fist': Shang-Chi may Become Marvel's Next Netflix Superhero

After much success in 'Iron Fist', the show may introduce another Marvel Comic superhero that may set off its own spinoff series. Rumors are now circulating that Shang-Chi may become Marvel's next Netflix superhero.

Shang-Chi, A Master of Kung Fu, is said to be added on "Iron Fist" following reports that Finn Jones will play Danny Rand in the upcoming episodes of the show. According to Comic Book Resources, both the Hashtag Show and MCU Exchange have cited anonymous sources that confirm the casting of Shang-Chi to "Iron Fist".

Comic Book Resources further explains that reports of Shang-Chi being cast on "Iron Fist" started after speculations of casting a white actor for the role of "Iron Fist" emerged. This was followed by rumors that Marvel/Netflix is exclusively auditioning males of Asian descent for the role of Shang-Chi. The source further tells that if audience receives the character well, Shang-Chi may get its own Netflix series.

Sang-Chi or known as the Master of Kung Fu is created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin. He was introduced in 1973 as the son of pulp villain Fu Munchu in "Special Marvel Edition" #15. He became a popular character and to its own series at that time, however, it slowly died out in the 80s and 90s. He was under the spotlight once more in the last decade, joining the Secret Avengers and getting a key role in the Daredevil storyline "Shadowland", reports Comic Book Resources.

Comic Book added that unlike other Marvel superheroes, Shang-Chi has no superpowers or supernatural gifts. His superhuman abilities come from pure skill and training.

"Iron Fist" is expected to premiere in Netflix in 2017 however, there has been no official release date provided by Netflix. Rumors state that production for the series will start this April.
