'Sandman' Update: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Quits 'Sandman', New Line Hires Eric Heisserer to Write DC/Vertigo Adaptation

Fans are eager to know as to when the "Sandman" movie adaptation would arrive in cinemas. As of the latest update, film director Joseph Gordon-Levitt decided to exit the project a day after New Line hired a new writer.

According to A.V. Club, Gordon-Levitt publicly announced that he is no longer affiliated with New Line and "Sandman." Gordon-Levitt stated that he and the New Line team didn't meet eye to eye, resulting to him dropping the upcoming "Sandman" project.

"A few months ago, I came to realize that the folks at New Line and I just don't see eye to eye on what makes 'Sandman' special, And what a film adaptation could/should be," Gordon-Levitt wrote on one of his Facebook posts. "So unfortunately, I decided to remove myself from the project. I wish nothing but the best for the team moving forward."

Gordon-Levitt has been part of the upcoming "Sandman" project since 2013. Though he called out New Line for their differences, Gordon-Levitt did not clarify what the conflict is. Despite removing himself from "Sandman," Gordon-Levitt wished the team well as they move forward without him.

Gordon-Levitt also expressed his gratitude and shared the knowledge-filled experience he had while working with co-producer David S. Goyer and the first screenwriter for Jack Throne. He also praised "Sandman" creator Neil Gaiman's insights and works, which motivated and convinced him that "The Lord of Dreams and the Prince of Stories are one and the same Endless pattern."

As for the film's new writer, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that New Line hired Eric Heisser to write the film adaptation of "Sandman." Heisser is made popular for his writing credits on "The Conjuring 2," "Final Destination 5," "The Thing" and the remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street."

"Sandman" is based on a graphic novel series by Neil Gaiman of the same title via DC/Vertigo.
