'Assassin's Creed' Sequel News & Update: Michael Fassbender to Return to Play the Main Role

Michael Fassbender is back to reprise his role in the upcoming game-based film "Assassin's Creed." The picture company New Regency is officially planning the production of the next installment.

Michael Fassbender, with the collaboration of Conor McCaughan, are set to produce "Assassin's Creed" via DMC Films, IGN reports. Jean-Julien Baronnet from Ubisoft Motion Pictures and Frank Marshall from Kennedy-Marshall Company will co-produce the said film.

However, it is not only Fassbender and his co-producers who will return to "Assassin's Creed," but also other important production partners.

It is quite expected that New Regency is already planning the production of the "Assassin's Creed" as it has the international appeal and the stardom of Michael Fassbender, Tracking Board reported. According to the outlet, there has been a lot of questions about the success rate of game-based films in the box office. .

However, unlike other game-to-movie adaptations, "Assassin's Creed" is sure to work well in cinemas and can succeed. In fact, the site reported that the success of creating movies derive from video game series have different results. 

As an example, the report cited two game-based movies like "The Resident Evil" and "Tomb Raider," which had film franchises and a couple of movie installments. The publication also added that 2016 will be the year for game-based movies with the debut of the upcoming "Warcraft," which is also based on an online game, directed by Duncan Jones.

According to Bleeding Cool, Fassbender will play the main role as Callum Lynch on "Assasin's Creed." Lynch is the successor of the long line of secret assassins and occupies the memories of his ancestor Aguilar from the 15th century.

However, even if the "Assassin's Creed" movie is not really centered on any pre-existing story, it has the same settings like the game series. "Assassin's Creed" is set to be released on Dec. 21.
