iPhone 7 Release Date News & Updates: iPhone 7 Plus Could Feature Dual Lens, Second Speaker

According to the latest rumors and speculations, the Apple iPhone 7 may come with new features such as dual-lens cameras, Intel LTE modems and a second speaker.

Gadgets 360 reports that an analyst at CLSA Securities claims that Intel will supply almost 30 to 40 percent of modems for the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Usually, Apple uses LTE modems manufactured by Qualcomm. By moving its modem supply to Intel, Apple might aim to achieve faster speeds for this year's iPhone model. The LTE modems made by Intel can achieve speeds of 450 Mbps download and 100Mbps upload speeds.

The Qualcomm MDM9635 modem currently used in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus offers only 300 Mbps download and 50Mbps upload speeds. The new Intel XMM 7360 chip with LTE 10 support will give an immense boost to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The Apple iPhone 7 Plus will feature some advanced camera technology, according to N4BB. Several reports suggest that the iPhone 7 Plus will come in two variants -- one with a single camera and the other with a dual camera system. According to My Drivers, there are rumors that Apple may call the iPhone model with dual cameras as the iPhone Pro.

The dual camera system will help improve low light photography, zoom function and overall photo quality. Rumors suggest that Apple will use the dual cameras setup from Linx, a company purchased especially for their advanced dual-camera technology.

A dual camera system would make optical zooming possible without any moving lenses, providing better overall quality photos. Corephotonics, another company behind the dual camera technology, had developed this function in 2014, but it did not spread to the market because of manufacturing and supply issues.

Previous rumors suggest that Apple wants to get rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack in the iPhone 7 to make it slimmer. The company will replace it with a wireless Bluetooth headset or a Lightning compatible earphone.

Now Apple Insider reports that according to a research memo by the Barclays group, Apple is also planning to replace the 3.5mm headphone jack with a second speaker. A second speaker will be powered by a second amplifier provided by Cirrus Logic and would help improve audio quality on the new iPhone models.
